Bailey has been doing well and we even made the trip to Tennessee and back with no repercussions. We ended up staying in Tennessee for about 9 days and enjoyed seeing friends and family for an extended visit. So many people have asked me for information on what the Drs. in Colorado came up with. There are some things that are unclear at this time and we are working on answers. They do not know why he wasn't born this way, why it happened out of the blue when he was 3, why it is so aggressive, why he blisters, why his adrenal glands haven't started back up on their own, and why he has the problems with the immune system. Hopefully some of the testing will reveal a few of these things, but here is what they think. They think that Bailey has a rare form of an already rare kind of eczema. It was more than likely caused by damage to his skin barrier. He was diagnosed by Vanderbilt with this from multiple biopsies, but it doesn't look like any cases of this form of eczema that they have ever seen. However, it does respond to some of the same treatments. They basically went forward with treatment, even though they weren't sure that it would work, and low and behold. It is working. They said that Nummular "blistering" eczema is a rare form, and Bailey's is even more rare in appearance and behavior of the disease. We are continuing the same treatment that we were doing at the hospital and have moved down to a lower level of care than when we left. He is still in the moderate category, even though to us he looks amazing. We will stay on this program until hopefully all of the redness fades. He now has NO open places and is feeling really good. He has to go to the Dr. in Orlando and here in PCB to show the Drs. his amazing progress. He is also enjoying his food choices and I can tell he is gaining a little weight. His diet was so restricted, it was impossible for him to gain. They were hoping to increase his calories and this has not been a problem. He is eating everything in sight!! (except for Pnuts) I will post some pictures in the next day or two so that you can see some before and after pics. Until then....it's time for another wet wrap. Gotta run!~Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-53934464628669561152014-05-05T12:55:00.000-05:002014-05-05T12:55:48.704-05:00Denver Day 13 of TreatmentToday is the day we went home from Denver. It was our 14th day in Denver, but 13th day of treatment. So many good things have come from this trip. We are so thankful to everyone who made our journey possible. We could not have done it without those who helped us to raise money and those that donated. Our Sunday School (life change group) has truly helped us "change our lives". I love each and everyone of our classmates like family and our entire church and friends and family all over the country have gone above and beyond...thanks to each one of you!<br />
We woke up at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning and finished the packing and cleaning of our room at the Ronald McDonald House. We grabbed a quick breakfast from a drive thru (haven't done that in years!!) and headed straight to the hospital. We did our last soak and wet wrap and finished up all of our wet laundry. We said our goodbyes to the wonderful nurses and staff. They have been wonderful these last two weeks. <br />

Immediately after he was out of his wrap, we headed for the Denver airport to wait for our first flight. We got there two hours early and made the flight with no problems. By this point, I was already tired from cleaning our room, packing, checking out, bath, and wet wrap. I don't think I was prepared for a 3 hour flight, a 2 hour lay-over, and another flight after that. It was a looong day!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We made it in to PCB around 8:00pm and Chris was waiting for us outside. Bailey sure was happy to see his daddy. I think Chris was amazed at how good he looked and felt. So far he has not had a flare since returning home. We are working on making sure everything in the house is allergy-proof (most already was) and working on getting in a routine here at home like we were at the hospital. It is very important to train him in a routine. We have tons of medicines to get filled so that we have everything we need at a moments notice for a flare, or if it is time to "step down" on some of his meds. We are also working to get him seen this week by his local Dr. and the Dr. in Orlando. We have to meet with them to go over his treatment plan and catch them up on his success so they will know how to treat if we call or go in for a visit. Denver is wanting him to come back for a follow up visit at some point so they can document his progress as well. I told them not to hold their breath. We may do a virtual visit over the computer. Flights and arrangements are just too expensive. We will definitely stay in touch as much as possible though. They did give us 24 hour phone numbers and contact info for all of the Drs. I hope to put up some new pics in the next couple of days. He is feeling so good. He has wore shorts and short sleeves the last couple of days, which is a huge step for him. We are pleased with everything that has happened these last couple of weeks and continue to see amazing progress daily! </div>
Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-23979354598476584172014-05-03T10:20:00.001-05:002014-05-03T10:20:18.961-05:00Denver Day 12So really, I just noticed that I didn't start posting the first day we got here, so yesterday was really day 13, but day 12 of treatment at the hospital. Yesterday we did our wet wrap in the am and had pictures made for the final day of treatment. The drs came in and got my pics that I had brought because they said they were a little bit better. They scanned them in to go with theirs. They have a medical photographer that they have here to make pics in a photo booth they bring to the room. I guess my (at home/cheap camera) pics were better :) By the time we did the bath, wrap, and photos, it was time for lunch. Bailey enjoyed a REAL personal pan pizza!<br />
After we had lunch, Bailey got to go with Dr. Darr (child psychologist) and work on their relaxation techniques a little more. He mastered his levels and she also took me so that I could learn and practice with him at home. They help him deal with pain and itching and focus on something else.<br />
In the afternoon, we had a conference call with Chris so he could hear from the drs and ask any questions he had. They got a kick out of some of his questions. Let's just say the dr was convinced that Chris' cleaning while we were gone was a ploy to smooth over needing a truck with leather. He said, I think you husband wants to trade vehicles and he is buttering you up with lots of cleaning...lol. Chris had asked if we needed to get rid of the soft top jeep because of allergies or triggers to his skin. ;) They said no...lol. Overall, the meeting went great. They are also frustrated that they can't give him any more help in these two weeks...but they aren't finished. They think he will continue to do well at home, they gave us 24 hour phone numbers to call with questions, they are reaching out to their colleagues, as well as the tests that they will follow up on. They said to just consider this the start of his healing process. He has been sick for so long, they say it is impossible for his body to bounce back from years of sickness in two weeks. They also showed me all of his labs from his time here. When he was admitted to the hospital his adrenal levels (which make natural steroids to help you when you are sick) were 0.....yep, 0! They say it is very important for him to stay away from people that may have contagious sicknesses like flu, viruses, etc. That is why he has a hard time getting better and his body may not be able to fight. They would like our dr to send us to another endocrinologist to have these levels tested again in 6 months. If they are still low...maybe consider adrenal stimulation to see if we can "kick start" it. This is a little scary, but not really surprising. They say it was more than likely caused by using oral steroids when we lived in TN. He hasn't had any since we moved, but his body still hasn't started making it's own.<br />
Chris has been working on making the needed changes at home and we will try to work on getting rid of the carpet. They said that it could be a huge trigger for him. We will have to figure out if we want to work with our landlord or move somewhere with tile or hardwood. They said that it harbors so much dust, dust mites, pollen, and bacteria. :( <br />
We are going to have so much to do when we get home, but we are excited with the amazing progress we have made. Every time I take him out of a wrap, he looks better and better. It is very encouraging to see him progress even still. His attitude has changed dramatically this week, as well as his pain level and itching. He is excited about the summer and going swimming soon! We are ready for FLORIDA!! Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-13424061750941806942014-05-02T11:07:00.000-05:002014-05-02T15:27:45.741-05:00Denver Day 11<br />
Yesterday was a long day full of testing and dr visits. We started the morning off with Dr. Abbott (the immunologist) and two of his assistants. They came in with info on two different studies that they were hoping to have us participate in. It required a blood draw from each of us, but could lead to lots of more studies on cases like Bailey's. One is for here at National Jewish and one is for Baylor University in Texas. They are going to basically run our DNA and see where Bailey's "code" is messed up in the area of immunology and skin. They can keep in touch if things are found and let us know of any abnormalities. If Baylor agrees to pay for everything, they will also be testing Chris and especially Kirsten because she is a "non-affected" sibling. It won't really do us much good at the moment to know what is causing it...but it can always lead to treatment in the future for Bailey or for other people with the same thing. They will also be running a panel on us to find any other diseases that we may have in the future. I find this especially scary (and I almost don't want to know), but if we are going through all of this, we might as well know and be prepared. It took me forever to fill all the papers out and ask a million questions. Hopefully, something good will come from this. There has to be a reason that our family and Bailey has dealt with this for so long. I hope that what they can learn from us can help. <br />
After the tests were complete, we did our first soak and wrap and they got his vitals for the day. Dr. Darr (child psychologist) came by to see him and took him for his biofeedback and relaxation exercises. She is helping him learn to relax more and be able to deal with chronic pain and frustrations of being "sick". He enjoyed today's visit much more and got to the next level. He was super excited that he had mastered the other. :) He talked Dr. Darr into coming again on Fri so we can do it together. He wants me to see him do it. It requires "mind control" of his breathing, heart rate, etc. He finds it amazing that he can control these things. <br />
When he was out of his wraps, we had some lunch and started on our milk challenge. We were worried because he often vomits when he has milk. He tested VERY allergic to milk and cheese. We have had to avoid the milk products since we had been here. Usually, he would do fine with his cheese, it is usually just the milk he had trouble with. When they started the test, they gave him a tiny cup, we waited 20 minutes and then about 1/4 cup. Another 20 minutes went by and we tested vitals and breathing. All was good so we test two more portions (1/2 cup and 1 cup) and waited two hours. He passed them all with flying colors. They think maybe lactose is his problem with milk and we used lactose free milk. They said he can have any kind since he passed the protein fine, but if he has aggravation with the milk, use a lactaid product to help his tummy. This is fine with us. He has come away with eating anything he wants except peanuts (we didn't challenge these because of anaphylaxis in the past). He is fine with this. He doesn't care for peanuts anyway! While he was doing his challenges. The nurse brought in a present that Nana, Pop and Kirsten had sent. He was so excited. He got a look and find book, A Colorado mascot candy dispenser, and a KIT KAT which he hasn't had in so long! He was tickled. <br />

We were able to talk with Dr. Naomi and Dr. B this morning and afternoon. I had a total breakdown at the thought of leaving with not many answers. They have assured me that they will help us through the healing process and try their best to keep him healed up. I feel I need more answers, but there just aren't any. I know they are doing all they can. They are leaving the option of immune suppressant medication on the back-burner as a last resort, as well as PUVA. They honestly believe that when his skin heals and stays that way, his immune system should drop on its own and stop the cycle of break outs and blistering. I am hoping they know. They haven't really saw a case like Bailey, so I don't know what they are going on. Trying to have faith and trust is hard. <br />
When we left the hospital yesterday, we decided to run to 16th st one more time to look for some shirts for the family. I wanted some that said Colorado or Denver and I have had a lot of trouble finding some. I found a great deal at a little shop next to Marlowe's Restaurant and we also ran to H & M to grab bailey a pair of shorts. He hasn't wore shorts in about a year. He was excited to buy some bright orange shorts and a shirt that had a storm trooper from Star Wars on it. The little things make him happy I guess :)<br />

<br />
We went back to the Ronald McDonald house and packed up some things that won't fit in our suitcase (mostly prizes from the hospital and arts and crafts projects) and carried them over to the UPS store to send back home. We returned to the RMH and grabbed some dinner from the sweet folks that were cooking. They made chicken and vegetarian enchiladas and black beans. I thought it was yummy, Bailey.....not so much. I made him a bowl of ramen since he hasn't had any in so long. He wanted more when he was finished. He said they just might be better than the spaghetti O's. ;)<br />
By the time we cleaned up after dinner, it was time to head back to the hospital again for a soak (and tonight was bleach bath night) and a wet wrap. We got him all fixed up and headed home for bed. Thankfully, Friday night should be our last night here in Denver. We will be heading home on Sat around 11am. We should make it back to PCB around 8pm. It will be a long day. I worry about keeping Bailey's skin in good condition while traveling. Prayers that we can make it home and go straight to the bath. The next few weeks are going to be like bringing home a new baby that requires round-the-clock care. Have a nice FRIDAY!!Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-58553448055398275812014-05-01T13:16:00.001-05:002014-05-01T13:30:24.355-05:00Denver Day 10<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Day 10 of treatment here at National Jewish went pretty well. We managed to get in school work, some art projects, meet with Dr. B and Dr. Elizabeth, have a time with child psychologist, two wet wraps with soaking baths, and a food challenge to sesame. Staying in this room is getting really old and we are ready to head back to Florida. However, I have few reservations about leaving because there are so many unknowns. The drs still can't tell us for sure what is causing most of Bailey's problems, so without knowing the cause, all you can do is treat the symptoms. Treatments on his skin are helping, but they aren't sure that they can get him to a clear point past where he is. They are hopeful, but can't guarantee that this will work forever. Talks of cyclosporine and future PUVA treatments are still on the table at this point and I am so scared to leave not knowing how to take care of this. They say that they will stay in touch and I can call, text, or even email when we have questions. This makes me feel a little better, but still....Please be in prayer that their treatment plan will be just the thing he needs. We also are going to need to go to Orlando more to the dermatologist or find one that is a little closer to home.</span> <br />

<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: large;">Later in the afternoon, we went by the park to try out his boomerang that he got yesterday. He really enjoyed "trying" to throw it, but we are gonna need to watch a few youtube videos I am afraid. It is much harder than it looks. :) It was so windy and chilly, we could only stand it for a few minutes. I think we were out there maybe 10 minutes and we were frozen.</span> </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: large;">At dinner Bailey had some Spaghetti o's and meatballs. He has been wanting some forever, so we just so happened to find some in the pantry at the Ronald McDonald House. It was a perfect dinner for him! He experienced a little chest pains during dinner and we had to take a little break, but we think it was heart burn from all of the weird things in his diet. He has had wheat for the last couple of days and today of course, was the sesame seeds. He had to eat a LOT of seeds. After a few minutes of laying down, he was ready to go back down and eat the rest of his yummy spaghetti o's. As soon as supper was over, it was time for a trip back over to the hospital. We got ready to get him in his next soak and wet wrap. I snapped a few photos of his skin to share. I am hoping to have some nice photos of before and after next week. The hospital set up a photo booth in our room and have taken photos of him along the way. I think they are going to share them with me so we can see the difference.</span> </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-size: large;">If you had seen his skin before, you know it was really open, often bloody, crusty and lots of different textures. Now we are down to only a few tiny "holes", which they think are the large open sores where they were the deepest. They say these will close in a few days, as this is the area that was the deepest. They are hopeful that the Purple/redness will fade and his skin will continue to smooth out. All signs of infection are gone and without any antibiotics. They say that 80-90% of bacteria is washed out and flushed away by the soaks and wraps. As the skin heals, there is not as much space for bacteria to live, so it often moves on and leaves. He will continue the bleach baths 2x per week to help keep any germs off of his skin. He is still very sensitive to bacteria and allergic to most strains. Keeping him away from bacteria is impossible, but keeping his skin healed should help with any infection or dangerous reactions. Our care plan will help us keep his skin in good condition so that it can heal slowly and healthily. Wet wraps are not so fun, but as you can see, he really makes the most of it. The sweatsuits help keep him warm and mobile instead of having to be all wrapped up for hours. He can go to the bathroom, play, and move around the house. In the wet wrap below...we soaked for 20-30 minutes in warm, clear water with NO cleansers. We then apply a thick layer of a high-dose steroid on all of the affected places and then apply Vanicream ointment AROUND (not on top of) the steroid. We soak men's tube socks in hot water and apply a wet tube sock to each leg up to the upper thigh and each arm to the shoulder. Next, a dry tube sock is put on top of each wet one and then dry underwear and sweats. The sweats are thick enough to keep him from feeling wet and protect furniture, etc. When his torso is back we can wrap his body by also using wet cotton pjs under the sweats to cover that area. If his head gets places that won't go away with cream, we have an option for wrapping his head as well. Fortunately, he doesn't have this problem right now. Thanks for your prayers and for all of those that helped us get here. Without you, none of this progress would be possible. </span></div>

Treatment went well this morning and his skin is making more and more progress. Today we saw Dr. B again and Dr. Elizabeth and they both are happy with the progress. They said to keep up the good work and hopefully the redness will fade soon. As soon as everyone laid eyes on him, we started the first soak and wet wrap. I also used this time to work on school since he is all wrapped up and can't do much. :) The photographer came in today and made some pictures of his skin and said that she will come again on Friday to do the final ones. During the day today, Bailey also got to try to challenge his allergy to wheat. He has tested allergic several times and this time his reaction to the tests were small...but they wanted to challenge to see if it was a false positive. We agreed because opening up wheat for us would make life so much easier. We started by taking his vitals and having the kitchen send up a small slice of wheat bread and he took one bite. We waited 20 minutes and then they took his vitals and a breath tests to see how strong he could breathe. He passed with flying colors, so they had him finish the slice and wait another 20 minutes. Again, they took his vitals and repeated the breathing tests. PASSED AGAIN! After and hour they let him eat a plain donut to see if there were any reactions...we patiently waited and he was prepared for throwing up and nervous a little too. The nurse came in and said he was all clear and we waited an hour to make sure for any delayed reactions. He is still doing 2 long soaks, wet wraps and the strongest steroid ointment. They said when they see a total clearing, they will step him down to a lower medication. He is almost there. Some of his sores were so deep, they still have an open place about the size of a pin head. They said they should close soon. Around 4pm they let us leave for a few hours and we had reservations at the Downtown Aquarium. Bailey had a great time, but it was the tiniest aquarium I have ever been to. It took us only about 40 minutes from start to finish. Chattanooga had us spoiled. It was free for Ronald McDonald guests, however, so we enjoyed it!<br />

After the aquarium, we went next door to Bailey's favorite kind of store....the REI store. He loves any outdoor places, so this is one place that was on his list of things to do. Denver is their "flag ship" store, so it was huge! 3 stories to be exact. We spent quite a while looking around. <br />

After our purchase of a boomerang and some gummy bears....we went driving towards 16th street mall (which is a street closed off to traffic with lots of stores downtown) and found the Elitch Gardens Theme Park. He had found this online before we came, so it was neat to see it in person. Unfortunately, it was closed. Of course, we cracked a few National Lampoon's Jokes as we turned around in the empty parking lot. <br />

Downtown is so busy and pretty hard to drive around. None of the roads are normal, they have weird turning lanes, and you share with the trains, buses and taxis. It is definitely an experience. (Bailey says scary too)<br />

By the time we made our lap through downtown, it was time for dinner. He was craving the noodles we had from Noodles and Co. the other night, so we drove back towards Colfax Ave. He loves the Pasta Fresca with chicken and for $4.49....where else can you get a healthy dinner? We finished the night off by heading back to the hospital and taking a soaking bath and getting in his wet wrap for the night. We bundled up and headed back to the RMH for some sleep. It was a long, tiring day, but we had a great time. I have decided to do my writing at the hospital during the day, instead of staying up late at night at the RMH. It already feels like we aren't sleeping, we are waking up at the equivalent of 5am our time and staying up later is making it worse. I got an extra hour of sleep by writing this the next day :) I usually have a little extra time when he is in his first soak. For the next few days, that is probably what I will do. Have a great day!! Rejoice in what the Lord has made!<br />
Until tomorrow........<br />

<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">Yesterday was a weird day here in Colorado. It was much cooler than the other days we have had here and nothing went like we were really expecting. We started off in our morning bath and wet wrap, did a little school work, saw the doctors and had our lunch. A little after lunch, Dr. B and Dr. Elizabeth came in to look at Bailey's skin and they were so happy with his skin, they decided he could have the day off until the bedtime soak and wrap. As a prize for doing so well over the weekend and being faithful to his wraps and his skin, they brought in some big prizes for Bailey to pick through. He picked a remote control car. He was so excited...he had to open it immediately and play awhile. </span><br />

<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">We looked around and snapped a few pictures from high atop the mountain, then wound around to the area where Buffalo Bill is buried. The spot for his grave is amazing, with views for miles from high atop the mountains. I can see why he requested that he be laid to rest there. It was amazing. Denver looked like just a little blot. </span><br />

<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">There at the gravesite is the museum and gift shop with café. We enjoyed some lunch in the café. They conveniently had veggie burgers and grilled chicken with plain ruffle chips. I think they must have known we were coming. We both finished it off while watching out the window with the most spectacular view. The gift shop there at the museum had Buffalo Bill hats and Bailey fell in love with them. He just had to have one of course. </span><br />

<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">This was the cutest little town. Exactly what I imagine when I think of "old Colorado". The tiny main street and cute miner homes were adoreable. I snapped a few pics of the city hall, downtown, and the old gold mine. We also enjoyed the little visitors center that had a tiny museum inside of local artifacts. Lots of beautiful gems (and of course GOLD) have been found in the hills there. </span><br />

<span style="color: black; font-size: small;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">Just as we found the hot springs, which actually has a small hotel/motel built around it, we turned in and looked up into the mountains and snow was coming down! It was a little blizzard! Since we had traveled over 30 miles through the mountain, we decided it might be time to head back towards Denver before we were stuck for the night. Everything was covered in just a matter of minutes. Down in Denver it was only 54 degrees, but the mountains were around 34 and we weren't really that high up. I can't imagine if we had went into the "big" mountains. </span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">We drove as fast as we could out of the mountains and made it back into Denver within just a few minutes. The snow followed us most of the way until we descended the mountain just outside of town. By this point, it was already supper time so we headed to the RMH to eat a little dinner. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-size: small;">A sweet group of people had made chili and veggie pizzas (using my favorite pampered chef recipe!) YUMM...it was good and we were able to go play outside on the play equipment before heading back to the hospital for our evening bath and wet wrap. It was a great day and we made lots of fun memories on our adventure. </span><br />
Love to everyone! <br />

Well, today once again started out bright and early at the hospital. We got there a couple minutes before 8am and went straight to our room. We ordered breakfast for Bailey and got the bath process going. He did a bleach bath today to make sure any germs are gone and soaked for almost 45 minutes. After his soak, we got him all wrapped up and in the bed for 2 hours. While he was wrapped, I used that time to feed him breakfast and we worked on school. I was his hands for both, of course, and we managed to get all caught up for the upcoming week on his school (he got a day behind at the beginning of the week when we first got to the hospital). <br />
After he was out of his wrap, I carried some of his laundry down and got it in the washer so we would have plenty for the next wraps of the day. His nurse came in to look at him and is pleased with his progress. She said we could skip the midday bath as long as he applied some lotion at the museum...this please him to have the whole afternoon. She also thinks there is a possibility of staying longer, but I will have to talk to the Dr. in the AM. <br />
We headed out a little before lunch and went over to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for the afternoon. We had a wonderful time looking through the museum. They have beautiful exhibits there. I took a ton of pictures (and so did Bailey), but the camera is in the trunk of the car. Bailey refuses to let me go back down and get it. He is super sleepy and doesn't want to walk down there or stay alone in the room. I will post a few of our pictures on tomorrows post. :) Bailey said his favorite part was the dinosaurs and the mummies (even though they totally creeped him out).<br />
For dinner, a Korean group of ladies came to the RMH and cooked a yummy supper. Bailey said that it was no where near as good as aunt Linli's food. I tried to explain that Korean and Chinese are a little different, but to him, Asian is all Chinese I think. ;) He said even Linli's rice is better. They were very sweet ladies and they made a spread. They had Korean beef, a vegetarian stir-fry with vermicelli noodles and veggies, a beautiful salad with a sesame dressing they made, and fruit. I appreciated a nice meal tonight. I feel like I have either skipped a lot of meals or eaten junk or granola the whole time. I think in the last week we might have had 2 really yummy meals. <br />
After dinner, me and Bailey took a ride into downtown and I drove slow and let him take pictures of buildings and things he found interesting. Denver is such a different place, he found lots of things to take pictures of. We also found a couple of places that we would like to visit. They have a really nice aquarium that we hope we might can squeeze in maybe just an hour or two to try to visit one evening before they close, and we also heard about an area just outside of town near the mountains that has a natural hot springs. He is wanting to ask his dr. if we could go there one day. I told him we will see. We are starting to run out of time. We should leave on Saturday unless our dr. tells us we need more time tomorrow. <br />
Overall, today was a great day. He laughed, played and danced around all day. He told me several times how good he felt and he was in a really good mood. Tonight when he laid down, there was no pacing the room, no crying and no needing massaging. This is a first this week. He is usually itching and hurting because of the wraps he has to sleep in. He says they itch his skin. I am guessing it is probably the strong meds inside that give him the itchy, painful feeling. Tonight, he actually fell asleep while I was typing this out. Watching him sleep makes me so happy. He is peaceful tonight and not in pain. I am so thankful to each and every person who has made this trip possible for us. I can never repay this gift. Even if we don't get everything we were (and still are) hoping for, know that you gave him hope and some ways of managing this horrible illness. That makes it worth it to me. I still pray that we get more answers and come away with clear skin and no more pain. On that note....I wish you all goodnight! Love and Hugs to everyone!Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0Denver, CO, USA39.737567 -104.9847179000000239.346987 -105.63016490000003 40.128147 -104.33927090000002tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-71168789840343631322014-04-27T00:19:00.000-05:002014-04-27T00:19:02.062-05:00Denver Day 6<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today I was determined to squeeze in something fun. We went to the hospital first thing and checked in and did our first soak and wet wrap for 2 hours. While he was wrapped we worked on school work and then got him dressed to head to the Denver Zoo. It is really close (actually only a few blocks) from our hospital. So it really didn't take us but a minute to head over there. We had a blast. He did get a tad too hot in the sweat suit since it was 74 degrees, but his skin is about the texture of wet toilet paper when he gets out of the long wrap and it tears really easy. He likes the soft insides of the sweats because they don't rub his places and they look much better than cotton PJs. :) As soon as we were done at the zoo...he was ready for bath number 2 and some dinner. We found a nice place called Noodles and Co. where we were able to get him some gluten free noodles. We both enjoyed dinner and had a fun time together. We have been blessed with lots of bonding time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We did go back to the hospital for soak number 3 and wet wraps a little while ago and I already have him in the bed and asleep. Here are some the pics from the day. I am hoping tomorrow to take him to a museum or something fun again, since Monday all of the extra appointments will be mixed in to the soaks and wraps. </div>

Bailey finally got a halfway decent nights sleep last night. We put 400MG of Ibuprofen with the sleeping aid to help him rest and not hurt. They say when we sleep, our body heals, so they want him to have as much sleep as possible. This is how I found him when I got out of the shower this morning....Doesn't even look comfortable.</div>

Most of today was all about the wet wraps. We didn't have any appts today other than the Dr and lots of wrapping. We worked on some school during the time we would normally be doing art, psychiatry, or classes. The Drs were very excited about his skin today, but they want to see him over the weekend instead of waiting until Monday. They said they would love to monitor him, so we will definitely go over early in the morning for first wrap, then they are letting me take him to the zoo until late afternoon. He is really excited about going to the zoo! We get in free thanks to the RMH...so that makes it even better if we can't make it to stay a long time. The only other major news today is they have him off of any milk (includes cheese, butter, etc.) He tested high in the prick test, the puddle test and his blood work. They said hold off until next week when we can do the food challenge to make sure. They want to quadruple check to make sure it doesn't flare his skin or cause any reactions. He was NOT excited about this at all. His diet is so limited and he has a hard time eating as it is. I told him to be patient. I think some of his food problems will be gone by next week. They seem pretty hopeful that they may can give him wheat next week. We shall see. Tonight we were spared from another meal off of the hospital tray or taco bell (what I have ate almost every night) and we went to Udi's over near the hospital. It was delicious and the have lots of gluten free options for him. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today they also let us go outside again after lunch as long as he was rubbed down with tons of cream. While we were outside, Bailey found a friend....or two.</div>

His hair is pretty crazy. He refuses to let me cut it at all. He wants it long. So I say, LET IT GO...I am not gonna stress anymore about it. He REALLY wanted his picture with this statue...for 3 reasons he said: 1 because its cool, 2 because of the sign behind it that says, "we never say never" (he finds that encouraging) and 3 because the entire family in the statue is naked and he found it incredibly funny. I spared you all by taking a shot from the "backside"...lol.....YOU ARE WELCOME!Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-21748007246496717442014-04-24T22:55:00.000-05:002014-04-24T23:20:55.433-05:00Denver Day 4We got a little more sleep last night after hours of pacing, massaging his legs, and holding him. He managed to stay in the wraps until around 1:30am. We woke a little earlier this morning and went straight to the hospital to get started on the days routine. This morning we met our new nurse for the next 3 days and we also met Dr. Naomi our other PA that job shares with Dr. Elizabeth. They came in to examine Bailey and get caught up on our visit and Bailey's progress. Dr. B came in while Bailey was in his first bath and examined him... and I cornered him about my visit with Dr. Abbott yesterday. He apologized for the confusion and said that they did talk yesterday and decided that what the immunologist told me was a little incorrect. He was hoping for that second opinion, but he said immunologists often want to get to the source without helping what is ailing the child. He feels there is no danger of a major heart condition because he had been in hospital several times, in and out of drs all his life and nothing <span class="text_exposed_hide">...</span><span class="text_exposed_show">that would be of concern. He said they could monitor his heart if it made them feel better. His pulmonology tests all look good and no signs of breathing issues other than his history with anaphylaxis. For now...they are going with nummular Dermatitis which is what his the biopsies at Vanderbilt concluded, but they didn't believe because it looks so different. He thinks it is much more severe due to his immune responses...he says your skin is your first defense against things your immune system can fight....if his immune system is going overboard, it could be causing a larger reaction with the skin barrier. This is not official yet, but this is his initial thoughts before all the tests come back. His hope is to repair the skin "barrier" and in turn decrease his immune responses.</span><span class="text_exposed_show">The last few days have been very painful for Bailey and we aren't so sure why. His skin is looking better, but he is hurting worse. Maybe from the healing or maybe not knowing how to feel good. They said kids with chronic pain can sometimes get confused when they start to feel better all of the sudden. He went with the Psychologist this afternoon and did some biofeedback exercises to cope with the pain and calm himself when he is hurting or anxious about the pain. She said she will continue these until he can master them over our stay. Art therapy brought lots more activities and movies for him to watch while he is wrapped and we went for a walk outside the hospital to get some sunlight and fresh air. </span><br />
<br />
<span class="text_exposed_show">Later in the afternoon, Nurse Lauren came in and did his skin prick tests to environmental allergens and lots were positive allergies. Most we already knew. Much to his dismay, he is still allergic to cats (sorry Todd the cat, no chances of you coming inside...that is what he was hoping for). They said we need to really make sure everything is allergy proofed in our house. We have always done this, so this isn't new either. The only thing that we might need to work on is getting rid of carpet. They also got back blood work today from food tests that were done yesterday and said even though most of his pricks were negative, his blood result to milk was very high. They will be challenging this next week to see if it is a real allergy or a fake response due to the over-active immune system. </span><span class="text_exposed_show">He also will challenge peanuts and sesame seeds along with wheat. </span><br />

We got to the hospital bright and early excited about the progress we are making. We were up a lot last night so that last time we woke up, we went ahead and packed our stuff for the day and headed on over. As soon as we got to our room we went to do all of his vitals and nasal wash for the morning. Our nurse, Bradley, told us that the cultures on Bailey's skin came back positive for MRSA and they were not really surprised with the number of open places he has. They said 1 in 4 kids that come the skin clinic have it because of this. Unlike Vanderbilt, they do not plan on an IV to get rid of the bacteria...they plan to take away the MRSA's place to live by clearing his skin so it can't live there anymore. This was a good answer for me because I know that Bailey is resistant to most antibiotics from over-use in the past. <br />
<br />
Dr. Elizabeth came to check out his skin while he was soaking for his 8am wet wrap. She was impressed with the amount of progress he is making and told him he can go to 2 wet wraps and one dry medicine wrap a day, but they called in a stronger steroid cream to speed up the healing process. He also doesn't have to wrap his torso anymore unless he flares...now just his legs up to his groin area and his arms up to his shoulders.<br />

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Dr. B our main dr came in and said that after reviewing more of Bailey's info, he really believed that Bailey has a severe form of eczema that is made worse by the immune system issues. Even though it looks nothing like it, it behaves similar and responds to similar treatments.</div>
This was really good news until the Immunologist came in and took everything in a whole other direction. He felt that it is more a genetic thing, a pulmonology thing, or a heart problem (yes, heart patients can have strange skin problems....I had no idea). Some of the things that made him think some of these is the blisters (which are not typical with eczema), family history of auto-immune, lung issues, etc. He is wanting blood work and an echocardiogram to rule some out and is figuring out how he can also get blood from Kirsten and Chris to rule out genetic things as well. This kind of knocked my feet out from under me and took me back to that initial feeling of having no idea what to do. We HAVE to get some sort of answers from this visit. I have a horrible helpless feeling. If they can't agree, I don't know what will come of everything. I am trying to keep positive, but I am so tired and miserable, it is really hard at this point.<br />
Later in the afternoon they did his first round of skin prick tests on his back to see what his allergies for the first rounds of foods are. For the first time ever, he only had two. This doesn't mean that it is final by any means, but now we can challenge and see if he has a reaction in a controlled environment. The only two that showed up is pnut and sesame seeds. This is crazy to me. The very first time he was allergy tested, he reacted to almost everything on the tests and had over 20 food allergies. He has been avoiding gluten for years in the past and recently for almost 2 years and has tested positive to it at least 2 times even in blood work. He is hoping that they will challenge and he will pass so his diet can be opened up more. The nurse also came by with some news of his immune system work up. We knew his immune system was way over active, and they have ruled out hyper-IgE syndrome, which is great, but his immune numbers are at an all time high. Most kids with a "high" immune system top out around 200. His was 17,500 the last time it was checked in Ft. Lauderdale. Yesterday....wait for it....it was 44, 000. Yep, 44,000! I was floored. They said that with the amount of skin problems, they are not surprised. It is not the highest they have monitored (but very, close). <br />
Late afternoon I decided to go to a class for parents and Bailey took a little nap while our 2 loads of laundry were washing at the nurses station. Soon after, we left for the evening and went to find him a gluten free pizza and took it back to the RMH to eat and play a game in the kitchen area. We washed our sheets to see if that would help him sleep better with his own detergent and went for a ride back to the hospital for soak and wrap number 3 at 8pm. I am not comfortable with doing them at the RMH in a non-sterile environment, so we made arrangements to go back at night for this so he can use HIS tub in HIS room that is clean and sanitary. We got him all wrapped up and headed back here for bed. I gave him his sleeping meds to help him rest so he can sleep in the wraps all night (or as close to all night as possible), but the meds are not kicking in even though we have doubled it from the first night. He is not resting, but tossing turning and crying because he is itching and hurting. His skin looks better so I just wonder if it is burning and itching because he is healing and there is new skin on his "places" that are normally sores?? I don't know...but I know he is miserable. I am hoping for a good night's sleep for us both so we can handle the day tomorrow. I have been holding him and massaging for the last hour as he cries.<br />
Please be in prayer...I know we are only on Day 3, but in my mind, I see time slipping by without concrete answers. Please pray that they can work on this and agree on diagnosis, treatment, and care for him. <br />
UNTIL TOMORROW.......<br />

Day 2 began around 6:30am this morning when B woke up in his wraps ready to be changed. We quickly applied lotion and put on fresh pjs. The Dr. came by to say good morning and see how B was doing and told us we could order breakfast. B was very excited about his breakfast today. He had gluten free French toast and bacon. He LOVES pancakes, waffles and French toast. That was a nice treat for him. <br />
Around 8am the PA came in and watched him in his bath and documented changes in his skin. She could tell a difference this morning (as could we). She also had the nurse come and do his blood draw for today and they got that all sent to the labs. Immediately after his bath he began his 1st wet wrap of the day. After he was out of his 8am wrap (that lasted 2 hours) the child psychologist came by to introduce herself and talk to us a bit. Unfortunately, B couldn't stay awake and he fell asleep right in the middle of our talk. :) <br />
While B was still napping, it came time for the parent group and today's talk was about sleep problems, waking at night, chronic pain and how it hurts our sleep, and how to help him rest. This was a class I really wanted to attend, so the nurses looked after him while he napped and I left him a note in case he woke up and was alone. Fortunately, he never moved. I made it back to the room before he budged. His blood work will also be checked to make sure he is getting adequate sleep and to make sure he isn't deprived of certain nutrients that can make pain worse at night and cause aching in his joints. <br />
After his lunch was delivered, we started soak number 2 followed by wet wraps and packed our stuff. They were really sweet and brought by items for him to pick from for a prize for doing so well. At this point he was really restless and they let us take him in mobile wet wraps to our room at the Ronald McDonald House. He enjoyed renting some movies and relaxing for awhile until the wraps were complete. I spent my time cleaning and doing some laundry. I got our bathroom bleached so that he could have his 3rd wet wrap after dinner. We decided we didn't really want the fajitas they were cooking here, so we went and picked up something so we could get out for awhile. Once we were back we looked around here at the RMH for awhile and checked out all of the common areas. This is the coolest place I have seen and feel so blessed to be staying here for the next few days. I wish we could stay in the hospital environment (because of germs, etc) but it is really nice. They even brought me some extra linens for our wraps and some nice, fluffy towels for his bath. They have been very sweet. They also gave him a handmade quilt someone hand made and a 31-bag with the RMH logo on it. We just finished bath number 3 and wet wrap 3. He will stay in this one all night long or as long as he can stand it. They had me give him something to help him sleep tonight so we will see how that goes. He has spent 16 hours in wraps in the last 2 days. Even though it is a lot...we can tell a difference in his skin. They seem to think if we can get his body to rest and calm down with the itching, maybe his IgE levels would go down enough to stop the problem with his immune system. We will see how it goes. <br />
I am beyond exhausted and can't even fathom that we are only on day 2. I am going to hit the bed quickly because we have to be back in his hospital room by 8am. Here are some pics we took while we were exploring at the RMH:<br />

To keep from blowing up Facebook with so much information, and to keep me from making 10,000 phone calls a day, I have decided to use our old blog for updates. Our day of travel yesterday was exhausting (to say he least) and we were worn out by the time we made it to Denver last night. My goal was to post every single night of our trip, but we were beat! We had 2 plane trips (a 1 hour and a 3 hour flight) Everything went smooth, but lugging all of that luggage was enough to kill my back and hips. I was so sore last night when I laid down. Bailey enjoyed our flights and we tried to have as much fun as possible. He spent most of the day crying on and off because his daddy wasn't going with us. The picture here is of "something" on the wing. The window had fog on it so he made a stick figure on the wing of the plane. We also enjoyed the free movies on the long flight. It made the time pass by much faster. We finally made it to our hotel at bedtime and went straight to bed. We tossed and turned all night and woke before the alarm went off of course. <br />

Today was our first full day and we happily checked out of The Hilton Garden Inn downtown and headed for NJH. We made it to the hospital ahead of schedule and quickly were able to check in. They did a few breathing tests and checked all his vitals and we were given the tour of the pediatric skin clinic area. I was very pleased to see so many families here and there are lots of amenities for the kids and their families. We even have a large kitchen area, living area, and a laundry area for washing all of his wet wraps clothes. <br />

Our nurse for the first day was Bradley and Bailey seems to really like him. He helped us order Bailey's food and took us to the group art therapy session. Me and Bailey had fun making some masks. We decorated and painted them. I think he is really going to like going to therapy in there. The environment is very friendly and most of the kids here have similar things going on with them. We took a small break and got checked in to the Ronald McDonald House this afternoon and carried some stuff to our room there. That will be our home away from home for the next two weeks. He should be able to leave here at night and go to The Ronald McDonald House to sleep and report back early each day. <br />

His name is long (and Jewish I suppose) and is very hard to pronounce. From here on out...he will just be Dr. B. He agreed with all of the things we have tried with Bailey and seemed a little shocked at the appearance of Bailey's skin. I think the pictures and records we sent in advance didn't really do it justice. He is a bit perplexed as they were hoping for something simple like eczema or psoriasis, but as usual, Bailey is a hard case to crack. They are going to be doing some blood work tomorrow to see how his numbers look since they haven't been tested since 2011/2012. Later in our stay we will work on allergies and food challenges. In the morning they have an immunologist coming to look at Bailey and go over his records with us to see what else could be studied. <br />
<br />
Since dinner tonight, we have done 2 wet wraps. One was for 2 hours and the second he will stay in throughout the night. They have also given him some meds to help him sleep. I am hoping tomorrow we will get in a routine and will find out more info on our "plan of attack". I will keep you guys posted. Thank you so much for your prayers for my sweet Bailey, but tomorrow, please pray for safe travels for Kirsten. Her an nanny will journey to Tennessee so she can visit with family there while we are gone. <br />

Almost 2 years ago I stopped blogging and connected to everyone through Facebook. I have missed blogging, but life is so busy, Facebook is generally just a better platform for my busy days. This week, however, our family is taking a break from our normal routine to take Bailey to the hospital in Denver for some testing and treatment. In our search for answers, this hospital has been on the back-burner for years. I wanted to be able to share our journey to Denver for others who may be searching for similar answers. Starting Sunday, I will try to blog daily and add pictures of our progress at the hospital. Have a great rest of the week!!Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-1744050945741838442012-05-17T14:55:00.000-05:002012-08-29T15:29:29.478-05:00New Venture!Okay....we spend lots of time at home now that we are here in Florida. Since we moved, I have been searching everywhere to find deals on fun things we could do here in a tourist town and not break the bank. My kids see people playing mini-golf, riding go karts, all the tourist stuff, and they want in on the action. One night we went to dinner and were talking with friends and they suggested that I start a blog about saving money right here in PCB. With her persuasion, I decided it might be a great way to share the deals that we take advantage of. So whether you are vacationing in PCB, visiting friends and family, or live here and need to stick to a budget, my blog may be just what you are looking for. From freebies around town, to airline and hotel deals, I will try to keep you up to date with all the latest bargains.<br />
<br />
My blog is appropriately name PCB on a dime. You can find it at <a href="http://www.pcbonadime.blogspot.com/">www.pcbonadime.blogspot.com</a><br />

Ok, so Spring officially arrived and has brought with it MANY BEACH DAYS! We are really enjoying our beach time. We had a wonderful Easter and celebrated with our new church family. It was definately weird not being back home with family for our traditional dinner though. </div>

We are so glad that it is summer and ready for a visit back home. Hopefully, July 13th we will be pulling up in TN for a two week stay with family and friends! Hope everyone back home are doing well. I never make any promises, but I do try to keep you updated. We are all doing lovely and spending lots of time outdoors. Between the parks and the beaches, we spend most days outdoors. We finally finished our schoolwork a couple of weeks ago, so the days are now much more fun around here. We have been working on some projects, educational games, and watching lots of movies. That's my favorite kind of day. Much more relaxed than usual. <br />
Bailey is doing great and healing nicely..thank you so much for all the prayers and we continue to hope that he will get a little better everyday! <br />
If you get a chance this summer, come down and give us a visit, we miss everyone dearly.Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0Panama City Beach, FL, USA30.1765914 -85.805487930.0667769 -85.9634164 30.2864059 -85.6475594tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-10998491729195178512012-04-03T09:30:00.005-05:002012-04-03T10:32:31.796-05:00It Springtime!<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLnXso3cYJSfwM_VDg8BMRgr6mDxVded5l3hBAjmxKovkXPAsyZSOpSnAoqT8O3qCds659rzTMEMuetmBdEvgGU83Fo505NxK5PE-VZ1olHCt0zl2qNoSx3hUG3T6PFPknLlsWb3wo46sD/s1600/551108_10150640834275794_61876535793_9553801_1795193712_n.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 150px; height: 200px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5727192330016850786" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLnXso3cYJSfwM_VDg8BMRgr6mDxVded5l3hBAjmxKovkXPAsyZSOpSnAoqT8O3qCds659rzTMEMuetmBdEvgGU83Fo505NxK5PE-VZ1olHCt0zl2qNoSx3hUG3T6PFPknLlsWb3wo46sD/s200/551108_10150640834275794_61876535793_9553801_1795193712_n.jpg" /></a><div><div>Finally Spring has arrived!~</div><div> </div><div>Of course, most of our winter here felt like Spring already...it's kind of like we have jumped into Summer. Easter is at the end of the week, and oh, how we are gonna miss being with family this weekend. I have got a ham to cook, and we are gonna dye some eggs, but we are gonna miss the family gatherings and egg hunts. Instead, this week we will spend most days at the Marina Civic Center for the Panama City Passion Play that is put on by our church. {go <a href="http://www.panamacitypassionplay.com/">HERE</a> for more info.} It is a very LARGE production. Kirsten will be participating in the performances on Thurs, Fri, and Sat night. She is very excited to get to join in. Chris and me and Bailey will be spectators each night. :O)</div><div>Our homeschooling is finally winding down for the year and we have less than a week left to go. The kids are very excited to be finished and have lots of time for bike riding and swimming. We have been going to beach about once a week to try to get Bailey some water, but he really needs more than once a week. I can't wait to be done with school, so that we can just stay out there all the time. <img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 150px; height: 200px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5727194345706214514" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE6uGovjaSoCFtyksVJAgxwJA-1lo7KP2ulIC8heAQnfb26-_v2tMh6_VqTIWkxMnUJSoLRDFh8hZSzjsp16hBhBzQOaojbtl1aQeog9bY0tl73yDbSDqTy9PzGnWt75LAnYCYt2wuDyR-/s200/560369_401803429847560_100000537199830_1478175_133203805_n.jpg" />He is still looking quite a bit better and we are still only taking claritin and singulair....this is probably the least amount of meds that he has ever taken. He has also been seeing my chiropractor here on the beach. She is a wonderful lady. She found that he had some pinched nerves in his neck, so she has been working on getting that corrected for him. It will take awhile to see if there are any improvements to his health. She says that all bodily functions and illnesses can be connected to your spine. So we hope that this correction could maybe help his overall health. {fingers crossed}</div><div>Chris job is still going well and his travel is slowing up a bit {thank goodness}. He has started walking with some of the men at work and he has invited several of them to church at St. Andrew. We are hopeful that they will come for a visit. </div><div>So, I guess that is it for now...things are pretty much normal and boring...LOL. {that's the way I like it} Enjoy your Spring!!!!<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 200px; height: 120px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5727192326838100770" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LKqiGxYAt3U/T3sTE8mHIyI/AAAAAAAAA2U/2tkzSNFR_J8/s200/When-Is-Easter-2012.jpg" /></div><div> </div></div></div>Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-2098995813658091152012-02-27T14:18:00.009-06:002012-02-27T15:04:13.058-06:00Things are moving into place<div><br /><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>Well, we made the move from the temporary condo, to the new townhouse. We are loving the townhouse and feeling like we live in a home, not a vacation resort..lol. Our townhouse is a couple blocks from the water and is almost new. It's a 3br/3ba 2-story townhouse with a garage. We are loving having a garage and all the storage. We had prepared ourselves for condo living, so anything better than that is a huge bonus!!<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 240px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713918095530672770" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvIfczXxmAqYIiEcXJI-eVNIyEYmXFHn4e4Hp25XIlVg71jsqxfLlkOXIXzp9CPj9J736qmrSuUIWgLeZY1gRFOagvsP1UyrXDcQIaRBhrILhSP_LXF8h0du0pnnAVcDEcWZzvR3df7rCJ/s320/400860_10150691263569202_838744201_11899459_1472115821_n.jpg" /><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 150px; height: 200px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713920084384456370" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiguwLTQ6cfB3yfz2nbrzimSHQwAq0jNMSkGeGupaxYm1n9U5RciRnL_TDnhnLmnBwcE4b2LUdKdB7Fmz2wCyGiQQF63Pcsdkyn3_RbhM3UtT514JOcBN2U1GWlaDUFLGVqOCtON2qCc2NJ/s200/405702_10150709197979202_838744201_11964093_1135404880_n.jpg" /> Kirsten says "stairs are over-rated" She hates when it's her time to vac them!<br />In January, our family, church members and friends came to meet me and the moving truck and packed us all up. One family (the Jenkinators..tee hee) even helped me drive the truck all the way back to FL. Friends like this are priceless. Not only did the clean, and pack, and come and stay with us, they took time out of their crazy lives to drive us back down here, unpack and set everything up. I love you "Jenkinators"!<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 240px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713918406232788114" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XRY7iytzD0E/T0vqhE8STJI/AAAAAAAAA08/S8hc2g73eMs/s320/379948_10150696240569202_838744201_11921030_117541503_n.jpg" /><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 240px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713918415238550226" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUl0Uu3F4x0HuoYmW8FvEFrpJklU9TrCdwu9_ARw-92t5iaGC2BLhNv_LIEz2SlgsXgyr79yGMmqihmk_Zu0gZIS2tq93NcFlQ_vJL2zpVCA9XPvBjE_OcKS30VJ6CAKXggHxqZpmpHodS/s320/409510_10150696244079202_838744201_11921039_1153323110_n.jpg" /><br />Now that we are settled, day-to-day life is getting much easier. We are back on track with our school work and are set to be done in early April. The kids are working very hard and are learning more and more everyday. Chris is still loving his job and has been traveling alot! He was gone over 14 days this month. He is learning alot though and really falling into his job well. Everyone at work seems to really like him and he has made some friends. We have found a wonderful church and are feeling like this is where God wants us right now. After many visits and many different churches...this one seems to fit the most. They have wonderful classes for all of us, Chris is doing a Courageous class, Awanas for the kids, and they are very Missions-minded. They have over 12 trips planned for the next year. Its very exciting. The church is called <a href="http://sabc.org/">St Andrew Baptist Church </a>and is located in the St. Andrew Bay area of Panama City. </div><div>We have started to do more and more with the homeschoolers in our area. We have went to some of their homes, went on field trips, and had a nice Valentine's party at a park!<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 200px; height: 150px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713919210384520818" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-5AAFq5SBIRPIYK5tnkwCoaNdHZcNGORq1dihtdqxH8Iyf6I7DE_zkL3hgRfsM8KEnmVl9m7zoFA36bV5_19HhrTp0qw7F46GYYjRhemnwN6e1UK7b6011ZOltz_31MAcUI2ERRIZVYrR/s200/404812_10150716334929202_838744201_11991565_1429573140_n.jpg" /></div><div><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 200px; height: 150px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713919702123370146" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN8ZMrSbFIufklaVEvcZU3s2k_Of9qecIJ82IkZ2J0wEiiDdHNa3Mo_m_EO9sFatWDrLkvZkkvzxM-a6RUt9bWoaFZQUn2ovbBw4gT2TVbtepC9lZwVp79HWkRDqK8LL5I9DtVYR0GE-s5/s200/420202_10150773813894202_838744201_12155828_1581039120_n.jpg" />Bailey's health is continuing to improve. Since January, we have been trying a Gluten-free diet with him and he looks better than usual. We have had him off of the pedia-predisone since then also. We weaned him off slowly and we are hoping he can stay off of it. He has been on it since he was 3 or 4. It is soooo bad for you. Please pray that he will continue to heal. We are very excited for the sun, sand and salt of the spring/summer. This usually heals him even more. We have found one dermatoloigist in Tallahassee, but we are hoping that we won't need to go see her very often. Please be in prayer about us finding doctors in general. I am in need of a good OB-GYN, we need a chiropractor, a dentist for all of us, a family dr, pediatricians and an orthodontist for Kirsten's braces. whew!!! The thoughts of that is completely staggering to me. The pediatrician alone is enough to make me freak out. Most dr.s just cringe at the sight of Bailey. They want to mess with his meds, his treaments in general. For now, we have our own way of doing things and he is getting better, I just don't want someone to mess with it. LOL. <img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 150px; height: 200px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713920652025800530" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMLBTx2nC3RtVuDWaH-0_Nk78ZG-rR2PgrceQe3kGiywUdxxo9rFHtEVhFDd4RJF0kHbKF6Y_1wuqVrruZtLtgJdkXg_UOkeDqyq5KZdRVNz93T_w5RSz1ht3O4p09NMUlMazY8c_a8jy/s200/396612_10150702483654202_838744201_11945149_429584905_n.jpg" /></div><div> Bailey cooking up some treats!!!</div><div>Well, we are hopeful that now that Spring is almost here, family and friends will return for some visits. The kids are excited to show the grandparents their new rooms and their bicycle skills. I can't wait for "visitors" to come for a visit as well...it gets a bit lonely here. In March, we will be celbrating Kirsten's 11th birthday and in July, Bailey's 9th. It seems NO WAY possible that they are this old. They are so so big now! </div><div>Clint and Linli are still in China...working on getting Linli a visa so they can return to the US this fall to finish up school and so she can work on her Masters. I can't wait to see their faces. Their wedding is set for May 20th in China. My parents will be traveling there to be present for the ceremony. Considering the price tag, the Hyder's will not be attending. The price for flight alone would be near $7000. We will be helping my parents with a reception at the end of summer/fall for them held here in the states. We are very excited about that as well. Kirsten is starting looking for a dress to wear and I have been hitting up pinterest for lots of ideas. We have also continued our studies of Mandarin so that we can speak more to her family when they visit. So, until next time! zài jiàn....that's Goodbye in Chinese!</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-76143115610017633492011-12-21T13:04:00.002-06:002011-12-21T13:32:29.992-06:00Getting Settled!<div>Hey guys!!! Hope you are ready for Christmas, it's just around the corner. All of our packages are wrapped and ready except for a few in TN. We are settling in here in FL and enjoying the sunny weather. Its been 60s and 70s almost everyday! Lots of new things to get used to, but it's going pretty smooth. We sold our house this week and we have found a wonderful townhouse over near North Lagoon area and we are less than a minute from the water. Our anticipated move in date is Jan. 10th...hopefully a little before. God is soooo good and sold it just in the right time. We are sooo excited about getting out of this resort. Parking garages, elevators, and lots of tourists are nice, but not at your house...lol. We are ready for the townhouse! </div><div>Chris' job is going well too. He has already went on his first business trip and has several more planned. He is learning alot and having fun doing it. (that's the most important thing) He works with alot of nice people, and has a wonderful view from his office. It faces the bay, which is only about 10 steps away. He saw dolphins playing one afternoon and text me to rub it in. I reminded him I was at home and could walk down to the beach anytime I wanted...lol. :) </div><div>Unfortunately, we have been doing lots and lots of school to stay on track for an early summer. The water is fairly chilly, so we just go down for walks, to read, or to play in the sand for awhile. Its really good to be down there for Bailey as much as possible. He has only gotten in 2 or 3 times though. Like I said, it's pretty chilly. He will dip his legs and then run cover up. The question everyone wants to know, "is he getting better?" Well, it's not that simple. Dr's have told us it will take his body long amounts of time to fully heal, but does he "feel" better, the answer is YES. No crying at night and aching in his sleep. His places look fairly the same which is amazing. Since we have moved here, the "new Dr." did not want to continue his light treatments. So he is missing those. This summer it shouldn't be an issue, but right now, I feel like they were helping him some. All of his medicines are the same for now, but we are hoping we can cut some out this summer. Especially the prednisolone. It is very bad for you and he has been on it a long, long time. As far as infections, he has been great. No infections or signs of any for awhile now. Say a prayer that this will stay that way. Once he gets one, it takes forever to fight it. We found that out in Sept. while we were here and he got in a pool. Needless to say, he has not touched the pool. :)</div><div>Hopefully, as the weather gets warmer, we will be able to dip him and stay out so much more and not have to worry about school so much. We should wrap up our year in April if we stay on track.</div><div>So, as far as churches go, we have found one that I think will be a keeper! <a href="http://www.sabc.org">www.sabc.org</a></div><div> St. Andrews Baptist Church in Panama City is only a 10 minute drive across the bridge, but is well worth it. They have welcomed us in with open arms and the kids love their great kids programs. Every Wednesday night is family dinner in the fellowship hall, followed by a short devo. Everyone knows, I LOVE DINNERS at church! Even though we miss our church in TN so bad.....we are really liking this new church. The kids have started AWANA and are really liking it. They have made lots of friends and so have we. :)</div><div>Well, like I said, it's almost Christmas. I hope that each and every one of you have a wonderful and blessed Christmas this year. Remember the "reason" for the season and keep it in your heart as you travel from party to party! Love you all!</div>Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-76562461565037008332011-11-19T14:39:00.000-06:002011-11-19T14:40:29.375-06:00<div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_mukJHf3PL-LzR5A-QNCHKRliaBdXTHf3psAyHWZEay-mjs8Pq51AgVwAtrisIjzLp08TTXtTH6rjZ0Fe7tOeqN3oX2WHdAI6Ch1ryValqdpBJLiKMqZGymtBQJ9iaftUo-4m6rmLUX-B/s1600/387724_10150548053779202_838744201_11365753_1326836621_n.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 240px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5676809337161446914" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_mukJHf3PL-LzR5A-QNCHKRliaBdXTHf3psAyHWZEay-mjs8Pq51AgVwAtrisIjzLp08TTXtTH6rjZ0Fe7tOeqN3oX2WHdAI6Ch1ryValqdpBJLiKMqZGymtBQJ9iaftUo-4m6rmLUX-B/s320/387724_10150548053779202_838744201_11365753_1326836621_n.jpg" /></a><br /><div></div></div>Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-36438174317463302092011-11-19T14:32:00.001-06:002011-11-19T14:36:52.620-06:00Happy Thanksgiving!<div>Well, today is not really Thanksgiving, but it is to us! We are celebrating with our family before we leave for Florida. We have spent this week with friends and family and today, we get to celebrate! We will even have Clint and Linli (via Skype) with us tonight to talk to all of the family. Some of the family (like aunts, cousins, and grandparents) haven't seen him or talked to him since he left, so this will be extra special. Hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving next week. I will be eating a Veggie Burger at Sharky's most likely! </div>Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3004954976346725257.post-45125365442911295172011-11-05T04:05:00.002-05:002011-11-05T04:11:50.763-05:00Fast-Forward!Ok, so let's be honest...I didn't quite keep my promise. LOL....It's been over a month and there is lots to tell. Chris flew down and stayed with the kids and me for our last week. He had a interview at the job center (known to people at home as the employment office). Long story short, the lady loved him and gave him 3 good jobs to apply for. She also set him up an interview the next day and that company fell in love with him. After 3 more interviews and a test, he has been hired! It is an upper management job as a Special Projects Application Specialist. YAY!<br />Now for the super scary part. He starts Nov. 28th and we still haven't sold our house. We will be staying (more than likely unless we get a contract on it) in a furnished condo again until it sells and then we will move all our stuff. Whew! God has really got the wheels turning and this are quickly falling into place. We will be leaving soon, so we are trying to tie up all the loose ends before we leave. Please be in prayer and please be understanding if I am a total lunatic. I love you all and will see or talk to you soon!Julie Hyderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11477934953734455438noreply@blogger.com0
